Sizes available are approximate, it depends on the size of the kibble to really know the exact weight they will hold. You put feed in the top and the dog pushes the hanging door inward to eat whenever he/she wants. The 15lb feeder is 12Lx11Wx16H, 25lb feeder is 12Lx11Wx22H & 50 lb feeder is 14Lx12Wx32H.
Most dogs will adjust to the constant availability of food within a few days and will only eat what they need. Occasionally you will run into a dog that over eats and stays overweight if kept on the automatic feeder. These dogs may require you to give food in smaller amounts untill they learn the food is always there. The majority of dogs will regulate their food intake and stay in excellent body condition on an automatic feeder.
There is a small, thin magnet on the inside of each side of the door which helps keep the hanging door close to the frame. The magnets are usually 1/4 or more up from the bottom of the door. You may have to slide the magnets down some so that they will help the door stay closed better.
It is a good idea to shim the back of the feeder so that the feeder is tilted slightly forward. This allows gravity to keep the door closed. The door cannot seal tight or have a very strong magnet because the dog would have difficulty pushing the door in to eat.
The feeder needs to be faced away from strong winds. Some use silicone sealant to help reduce the risk of rain getting into the feeder. You should always keep an eye on the feeder because food can mold just from being in a humid environment as well as by getting wet directly. We suggest that you do not fill the feeder with more than a few days food supply and that you check the food periodically for mold (etc).
This galvanized automatic feeder should last several years. The feeder will also last longer if you mount it on a fence or wall so that the bottom is not touching the ground, which helps prevent rust from eating upthe bottom. The feeders have a couple of holes already in the back for mounting, but you may need to drill additional holes for more support depending on how you mount it. A backing board like plywood will be needed to mount it to a fence.
